Project Summary

The project rehabilitated the sluiceway outlet on Big Dalton Dam to support flood control operations, promote stormwater capture and groundwater recharge, allow safe emergency dewatering releases, and maintain a structurally sound facility. Specific project activities included the following: On the upstream side of the dam, the reservoir bottom access road and work pad featured a bypass pipeline into a 0.55-acre desilting basin. The sluice gate was replaced with a hydraulic gate, a new debris rack was installed, and an existing corrugated metal pipe was replaced with a concrete chute along the west rim of the reservoir. Downstream of the dam, repairs occurred at several locations, including the replacement of two existing dip crossings with box culverts and the replacement of the existing structure with a single-span bridge. Additional work involved dam apron and sluiceway repairs, the installation of a regulating valve at the sluiceway outlet, paving the existing access road with Portland cement, and various facility repairs. TQF provided materials testing and QC/QA inspection for the project.
