Project Summary

The Santa Monica Water Sustainability Improvement Project (SWIP) aimed to enhance local water resources through three main elements: the treatment and reuse of brackish groundwater, municipal wastewater, and stormwater. Designed to reduce reliance on costly imported freshwater from Northern California and the Colorado River, this advanced treatment water recycling plant creates local water supplies, improving beach water quality and promoting water self-sufficiency. The project, which began design in 2018 and was projected for completion in 2021 with a budget of $95,939,393, enables treated water to be reused for landscape irrigation and allows excess water to recharge groundwater supplies for future drinking water. TQF provided materials inspection and QC/QA inspection for this initiative.
