Project Summary

The Light Rail Transit (LRT) extension project expanded the system from Azusa Pacific University Station to a new terminus in Montclair, covering a total of 12.3 miles through the cities of Azusa, Glendora, San Dimas, Pomona, and Montclair. Key components included the installation of 10 miles of double light rail track, 10.2 miles of new freight track, dismantling existing freight tracks, building 14 new bridges, and implementing retaining walls and drainage improvements. The project established six new passenger stations with associated parking, upgraded utility facilities, and improved roadway and traffic signal infrastructure. With a budget of $805 million for the base scope, Phase 2B will create connections to regional destinations, including colleges and universities, and enhance access for daily riders with pedestrian and bike facilities. Planning for this extension began in 2003, with significant milestones including the relocation of the Metrolink Station and the construction of two bridges over existing freight tracks. TQF contributed to the project through subsurface imaging, quality management, material testing, and QC/QA inspections.
